Some pretty photos from this past weekend.  We had a delivery for a wedding cake, and Chef had some finishing to do with flowers left on site.  A very simple finish of smoothed butter-cream can be made into an elegant look with the use of a few flowers (we’ve had cakes with more, and cakes with less).

This is easily done at the home level as well, such as for adding a nice touch to a cake you make for a friend.  Just make sure the stems are clean and cut very short (about 1.5-2”).  It requires a little bit of an eye, but not quite as much manual dexterity as writing or piping designs.

While the tops of the side-cakes are pretty much covered, there is some spacing and pattern.  Odd numbers or odd pairings tend to be pleasing to the eye, and color can be used to draw attention in one direction or another.  Also, angles and curves, such as on the tiered cake, can draw the eye.  We’ve also had some cakes with scatterings of flowers or petals, and these can work quite nicely too.

We hope everyone had a great holiday weekend, and that you are getting the chance to enjoy the sun a little today!  Happy Tuesday everyone!
