Monday Considerations

A few random things being comtemplated on this mostly sunny Monday.

  • Sometimes we are surprised at which of our business costs have gone up the most, and may start to have impact.  Due to numerous supply chain cost increases, the costs of paper/take away goods have been steadily climbing the entire year.  Taken individually, it doesn’t seem like much, but collectively is another story.
  • Occasionally we have to be reminded that it’s very easy to become used to stronger or full flavors, and therefore mistake delicate for bland.  Every now and then, search out mild or delicately flavored foods- your palate will thank you.
  • We always have a larger number of donation requests from worthwhile groups than we can possibly accommodate.  A lot of people are trying their best to do good things for our communities.  If you believe a cause or group is worthwhile, do what you can to support it.
  • I am continually astounded by the wide variety of apples, tomatoes and potatos I see on the Seattle Farmer’s Market Alliance page (Ballard is its own entity).  Well…ok…apples are really early into season yet, but still- this blogger (Christopher) only recognized one variety out of those three.  Some varietal comparison tastings may be in order this fall.
  • Speaking of Farmer’s Markets- if you live near one, I’d encourage you again to explore what’s on offer.  It’s one of the best ways to start looking at seasonal foods if you haven’t before, and really, did you see that list of potatoes?

That’s about it for this Monday, have a great rest of your evening!
