Pączki
For those of you who don’t know, the title word is Polish, and pronounced (roughly) “Poonch-key” or “Pooch-key” (if you are fluent/native in Polish, please feel free to send a better phonetic pronunciation!). For those of you who do know, you’ll be delighted to know that they are making their return next week!
What are they? Well….
The short, and semi-correct version is that they are the...

Wedding cake
We had a rare Monday cake delivery yesterday. Normally, wedding cakes go out on Friday and the weekend, so the Monday was unusual. I’m not sure of the flavors on it, but the finishing was elegant, so I thought I’d share. Have a happy Tuesday everyone!
Team Effort…
Getting that last detail just right…
The finished cake, ready for delivery.

Apple Pie!
Starting this week, we’re carrying individual dutch apple pies. Made in small batches daily, they feature a pate-sucre crust, sweet organic apples, cinnamon, sugar and topped with an oatmeal streusel. They’re quite tasty, and if you need a little ice-cream to go with, the Husky Deli is just a couple of shops away.
We also have brought out a few new candies. The past couple of weeks have...

Small shop pitfalls
The exhaust fan turned out to need new bearings, but all is taken care of and we’ve returned to normal operating temperatures. That’s one of the pluses of a small shop- you can usually identify a problem very quickly. There’s just so many places you can look.

Then your main exhaust fan throws a belt and you realize it pretty quick! We’ve had a gentle reminder of what late spring can feel like in production. Belt is getting fixed today, so we should have normal...

New Year, New POS, Newsletters…
Welcome to the first official post of 2010! We appreciate everyones’ while we were shut for our yearly reset, and hope that everyones’ year got off to a good start.
The beginning of our year started with a reset/reorganization in the back, as well as a major point of sales overhaul in the front. In production, Chef’s never-ending quest for better organization- the mark of nearly all culinary...

Closed this week…
Sorry to say, but we are shut for the 4th through the 7th. The bakery needs a little love, namely, we need to catch our breath, scrub the heck out of everything, re-tool, repair and re-arrange for the new year. We’ll be open again on the 8th, with a bright and shiny new point-of-sale system, and hopefully some new shelves in the back. Thank you very much for your patience and understanding!
